Our picks among the best AI couples therapy apps 2026 has to offer are Pragma, Figlet, Lasting, Paired and Lainie. We also include Regain, where a licensed therapist does the work online. We compared all six on price, voice, methods and who each one covers. Then we cover five more apps in short: CoupleWork, Connected, Maia, PairLume and Cuddle. Every app here is a coaching tool, not therapy.
This guide is for couples who are mostly fine but drifting. One disclosure first: Pragma is our app, so we describe it in more detail. Every other app is described from its own pages.
What "AI couples therapy apps" are, and what they are not
AI couples therapy apps are coaching tools for couples. They are not therapy, even though that is the name people search for.
What they are:
- Coaching and structure for everyday communication.
- A way to cool a fight, name a pattern and practice one skill at a time.
- Available tonight, with no waitlist.
- Far cheaper than a counselor. An in-person couples session costs $150 to $300 in 2026.
- Usually built on methods couples therapists train in: the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), CBT and Nonviolent Communication.
What they are not:
- Not therapy. No app on this list can assess your relationship or treat a mental health condition.
- Not for a crisis. For abuse, trauma, addiction or thoughts of self-harm, you need a trained human. See when to get more help.
- Not a replacement for a licensed professional. The American Psychological Association's health advisory says the same of AI chatbots and wellness apps.
Check two things in any app. First, the method it is built on. Second, privacy: who sees what, and whether your partner can read your words.
The best AI couples therapy apps of 2026 at a glance
The six are Pragma, Figlet, Lasting, Paired, Lainie and Regain.
- Pragma: a 15-minute daily session for each partner, by voice or chat, with three AI coaches. Best for couples who want one short practice they both do.
- Figlet: a text coach built on Emotionally Focused Therapy, starting with an assessment. Best for a partner working through the pursue-and-withdraw pattern.
- Lasting: self-paced sessions and courses for two, with no AI coach. Best for couples who prefer a curriculum to a conversation.
- Paired: a daily question you both answer, plus quizzes, games and short courses. Best for couples who are doing well and want a light touchpoint.
- Lainie: an AI advice chat for one person, on iOS only. Best for talking a situation through before you raise it.
- Regain: a licensed therapist online, by video, phone or messaging. Best for couples who need clinical help and can budget for it.

Prices come from each app's own page or App Store listing. They change often, so check before you pay.

Quick picks: the best AI couples therapy app for your situation
The best app depends on what the two of you need this month. Find your situation, then jump to that app.
| Your situation | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| We keep having the same argument | Pragma | A coach traces the pattern in a daily session for each of you |
| We would rather talk than type | Pragma | Voice or chat, chosen session by session, with a private account for each of you |
| I want to think it through alone, in text | Figlet or Lainie | Both are chat coaches one person can start with |
| We want a course to work through | Lasting | Structured sessions at your own pace |
| We are doing well and want a light habit | Paired | One daily question you both answer |
| We need clinical help from a human | Regain | A licensed therapist, online |
Not sure yet? The three questions further down will settle it.
Pragma: a daily practice for two, by voice or chat
Best for: couples who want one short practice they both do, on their own phones, most days. Pragma is an AI relationship coach. It is not a therapist, and it does not diagnose or treat.
What you get: a 15-minute daily session by voice or chat. You talk with one of three coaches: Juno (Connection Coach), Aria (Clarity Coach) or Kai (Momentum Coach). Each session ends with one small thing to try. The Practice adds a program of 7 to 10 days, one task a day. There are 13 programs, such as The Six-Second Kiss and The Soft Startup. The Blueprint shows your sessions, exercise days and recurring patterns over time.
Built for two: each partner has a private account. You pair with an 8-character code, and you can start alone and invite your partner later. Your partner sees that you completed a session or an exercise day, never your words. Transcripts are encrypted and are not shown to the other person. The app runs in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Arabic.
Price: $19.99 a month, $44.99 for three months or $119.99 a year, per partner. Read on the Pragma pricing page. The 7-day free trial starts on the web with no card. A year costs about one counseling session, and it is not a substitute for one.
Where it falls short: it is a daily habit, not a rescue in the middle of a fight. There is no human on the other end, and no independent trial of Pragma exists.

Figlet: text coaching built on one method
Best for: a partner who wants to think through the pursue-and-withdraw pattern with a coach built on Emotionally Focused Therapy.
What you get: Figlet was built by Figs O'Sullivan, LMFT. Empathi's research draws on 58,221 completed relationship assessments, 17,143 of them in the Figlet app. The coach works in text, pushes back rather than agreeing, and starts with an assessment. Empathi calls it "an AI relationship coach".
Price: the solo Back Pocket plan is $19.95 a month or $149 a year. In Your Hand is $57 a month. Team Us covers both partners with one payer, from $34 a month. The first 10 messages are free, with no card. Plans are message-based, so check the allowance on the plan you pick. Read on empathi.com.
Where it falls short: no voice, and the assessment-first flow suits people who like structure more than conversation.
See the full Figlet vs Pragma comparison.
Lasting: courses for two from the company behind Talkspace
Best for: a couple who would rather work through a curriculum at their own pace than talk to an AI.
What you get: structured sessions on communication, conflict and connection, plus conversation starters and reminders. The free Foundations series covers the basics. Lasting is made by Groop Internet Platform inc., the company behind Talkspace. There is no AI coach.
Price: Lasting says one Premium subscription covers two users, you and your partner. In-app purchases start at $11.99, with annual options up to $79.99. Read on the App Store listing. Monthly and yearly plans carry a 7-day trial. English only; 4.7 stars from 25,000 ratings.
Where it falls short: a fixed course cannot respond to what happened in your kitchen tonight.
Paired: five minutes of daily questions
Best for: couples who are doing well and want a light daily touchpoint.
What you get: a daily question you both answer, quizzes, games and short courses written with relationship experts. Answers are shown once both of you have replied. The App Store listing names no AI feature.
Price: $14.99 a month, with annual offers listed between $39.99 and $74.99. One subscription covers both partners. Read on the App Store listing. 7-day free trial. English, French and German; 4.7 stars from 210,000 ratings; rated 18+.
Where it falls short: prompts do not work through a recurring issue, and there is no coach to talk to.
See the full Pragma vs Paired comparison.
Lainie: an advice chat when only one of you is asking
Best for: one person who wants to talk through a situation before raising it.
What you get: an AI relationship coach in chat form, for one person, on iOS only. The first 50 messages are free, with no card.
Price: the Unlimited plan is $7.99 a month, read on hilainie.com.
Where it falls short: it is built for one. There is no shared practice, no second account and no view of the couple.
Regain: a licensed therapist online
Best for: couples who need clinical help, or who want a human in the room and can budget for it.
What you get: a licensed therapist who works with both of you by video, phone or messaging. Regain is BetterHelp's couples brand, owned by Teladoc.
Price: $60 to $90 a week, billed every four weeks. That is $240 to $360 a month for both partners. The rate varies by location, insurance is not accepted, and financial aid can cut 10 to 40 percent. Read in Choosing Therapy's review.
Where it falls short: it is a weekly appointment, not a daily practice. Many couples use both.
Five more AI couples apps, in short
These five come up often when couples search for an AI app. We read each one's own site and App Store listing on 27 October 2026.
CoupleWork: a voice and text coach named Maxine
CoupleWork, by BetterLabs AI LLC, offers voice and text sessions with an AI coach named Maxine. It names the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, and offers individual and partner sessions. The App Store lists $24.95 a month, $64.90 for three months or $249 a year, with every plan labelled Individual. There is a free trial and a free relationship assessment. iOS and Android; 4.7 stars from 34 ratings. Read on the App Store listing.
Where it falls short: the plans are labelled for one person. Its App Store privacy label lists identifiers and usage data as used to track you.
Connected: 30+ tools and one subscription for two
Connected, by Connected Couples LLC, links both partners with a code. It has questions, check-ins, journaling and an AI coach called Ask Connected. Its Conflict Analyzer records a conversation and deletes the audio after analysis. It names the Gottman Method, attachment theory and EFT. There is a free plan. Connected+ is $12.99 a month or $77.99 a year, and Premium is $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year. One subscription covers both partners. iOS and Android; 4.9 stars from 104 ratings. Read on connectedcouples.app.
Where it falls short: most of it is tapping and typing. Extra AI coaching is sold in credit packs from $9.99.
Maia: a shared chat and voice space
Maia, by Our Maia, Co., gives you and your partner one private space to chat by voice or text. Its content is written by relationship experts, and it names no method. The App Store lists Premium at $24.99 and at $200, without a billing period. iPhone and Android; 4.8 stars from 380 ratings. Read on the App Store listing.
Where it falls short: one shared space rather than a private account each. Its App Store privacy label lists messages, audio, precise location and contacts as linked to you.
PairLume: live sessions with both of you
PairLume runs one live AI session for two partners, each on their own phone. Your partner joins with a code or a link, with no install needed. Solo sessions work too. The free plan keeps 30 days of history. Pro adds voice messages for $14.99 a month or $149.99 a year. It runs on the web, iOS and Android. Read on pairlume.com.
Where it falls short: it is new, with 2 ratings on the App Store, and it names no method.
Cuddle: daily questions with an AI assistant
Cuddle, by ABI Services LTD, offers five-minute daily exercises designed by therapists, plus quizzes and guided audio courses. An AI relationship assistant unlocks once you invite your partner. The first session is free, then a 7-day trial. The App Store lists Premium from $9.99 to $59.99, without billing periods. iOS and Android; 4.5 stars from 106 ratings. Read on the App Store listing.
Where it falls short: the AI is one feature of a content app, not a coach you work with daily.
Lovon also comes up in these searches. It is a voice app for one person's mental health, with no couples mode, so we leave it out.
General chatbots: free, flexible, and built for one

ChatGPT and Claude are free to start, answer anything and are already on your phone. Many couples try them first. Two things to know before you use one as a referee.
They answer one person. There is no second account and no memory of the couple, so the chatbot hears your side only. They also tend to agree with whoever is typing.
A 2025 study in Science tested 11 AI models. The AI affirmed users' actions 49 percent more often than humans did. After one conversation with a sycophantic model, people were less willing to repair a conflict. They were also more sure they were right. If you use a general chatbot, ask it what you are not seeing. Expect it to be gentle with you.
How to choose an AI couples therapy app: three questions to settle first

Answer these three questions about the two of you. Each one points to a different tool.
1. A rescue mid-fight, or a daily rhythm?
No app on this list is designed for the heat of an argument. Step away, breathe, and come back to it. If you want the same fight to stop recurring, pick a daily practice. Pragma and Lasting are built around a rhythm. Paired is a daily touchpoint. Figlet and Lainie are a conversation when you need one.
2. Voice, or text?
Pragma offers voice or chat, chosen session by session. CoupleWork and Maia also offer voice. Figlet, Lainie and PairLume are text. Lasting, Paired, Connected and Cuddle are mostly reading and tapping. A tired evening often goes better out loud. A shared flat with thin walls goes better typed.
3. Only one of you, or both?
If only one of you is ready, Lainie and Figlet's solo plans are built for that. Pragma lets one partner start and invite the other later. If you want a practice you both do, look for two private accounts rather than one shared login. It means neither of you has to read the other's words. Lasting, Paired and Connected work from one subscription for two. PairLume puts both of you in one live session.
What AI couples apps can and cannot do
AI couples apps can coach a daily practice. They cannot assess, diagnose or treat.
What they can do:
- Cool a conflict and name the pattern under it.
- Give you one small thing to try.
- Be there at 10 pm on a Tuesday, when most couples need them.
What they cannot do:
- Assess, diagnose or treat.
- Read your face or hear the silence between you.
- Be right every time. Treat what an AI coach says as a prompt for your own thinking, not a verdict.
Psychologists share that caution. In the American Psychological Association's 2026 survey, 94 percent of psychologists reported concerns about chatbot safety and effectiveness. If you are in therapy, tell your therapist what you are using. The two usually fit together well.
Try tonight
pick one argument that keeps coming back. Each of you finishes this sentence out loud: "Under that fight, what I need is…". One sentence each. Then one minute with no replies. That is the first step of Pragma's Speaking From Needs program. You can do it with no app at all.

How we compared the best AI couples therapy apps
We read each app's own website and App Store listing, and compared the same five points for every app.
- Who it is built for: one person, or both partners.
- Whether there is an AI coach, and whether it works by voice.
- What it costs, and whether one fee covers two people.
- Which methods it names.
- Where it falls short.
We did not run a clinical test of any app, and nobody paid to be on this list. Pragma is our app. Where a fact comes from another company, the link goes to that company's page.
When to get more help than an app can give
Some situations need a trained human, not an app. Please reach a professional, and skip the app, if any of these is true for you:
- There is abuse, coercion or fear that stops either of you from speaking freely.
- One of you is thinking about self-harm or suicide.
- There is active addiction, untreated trauma or a mental health condition that needs care.
- You are separating and need legal or financial advice.
In the US you can call or text 988 at any hour. You can find more helplines on Pragma's crisis resources page. No app on this page is an emergency service.
Where to start with an AI couples therapy app
If your situation calls for a therapist, start with one, and use an app for the days in between. Mostly fine, and want a habit for a busy week? Start your 7-day free trial of Pragma. No card to begin. Your partner can join when they are ready.

Frequently asked questions about AI couples therapy apps
Are AI couples therapy apps actually therapy?
No. Every app on this list, including ours, is a coaching or education tool. None diagnoses, treats or replaces a licensed therapist. "AI couples therapy" is the phrase people search for, so we use it to name the category. What these apps provide is daily coaching and structured practice.
Which AI couples app is best if my partner will not join yet?
Lainie is built for one person, and Figlet's solo plans work for one. Pragma lets one partner start the daily practice alone. You invite the other later with an 8-character code, and the second account stays private. Lasting and Paired are designed for two from the start.
How much do AI couples apps cost compared with counseling?
The apps on this list run from free plans (Connected, PairLume) and $7.99 a month for one person to about $40 a month for two. CoupleWork is $24.95 a month on its Individual plan. Pragma is $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year per partner. An in-person couples session costs $150 to $300 in 2026. Online counseling with a licensed therapist runs $240 to $360 a month.
Are AI couples apps private?
It depends on the app, so read the privacy policy before you share anything. Ask two questions: can your partner see what you wrote, and is the content encrypted? In Pragma, each partner has a private account and transcripts are encrypted. Your partner sees only that you completed a session or an exercise day.
Do any of these apps offer a free trial?
Pragma gives 7 days free with no card. Figlet gives the first 10 messages free and Lainie the first 50. Lasting has a free Foundations series plus a 7-day trial on paid plans. Paired offers a 7-day trial of Premium. Connected and PairLume have free plans, and Cuddle gives a free first session, then a 7-day trial. Regain charges from the first week.
Can ChatGPT be used for couples therapy?
Not as therapy. ChatGPT can help one person think a situation through, but it hears only your side and keeps no picture of the couple. A 2025 study in Science found that AI models affirmed users' actions 49 percent more often than humans did. If you use one, ask it what you are not seeing. A couples app gives each partner a voice, and a licensed therapist is the right step for anything serious.
