AI relationship coach for Gen Z couples: Pragma, used openly by both of you.

Pragma is an AI relationship coach for Gen Z couples. Each of you talks with an AI coach for about 15 minutes a day, by voice or chat. You bring the fight, the text or the postponed talk. You leave with one small thing to try. Pragma is a coach, not a therapist. It does not diagnose or treat.

This page is for couples in their late teens to late twenties who already ask chatbots about the relationship. It covers what Pragma does, how it works for two, what it costs and when it is the wrong tool. Want to see a session first? Read what an AI relationship coach does for couples.

01 · What you get

What Pragma does for Gen Z couples

Pragma gives young couples a short, daily place to practice talking things through. It is built for two people, so neither of you is the only voice in the room.

The text you can't read

A one-word reply lands wrong at midnight. You talk it through with the coach before you answer, and decide what to ask instead of assuming.

The fight that keeps coming back

Same topic, same ending. The coach helps you name the pattern and gives you one thing to try next time.

The talk you keep postponing

Moving in, money, meeting the family. You rehearse how to open it before you say it for real.

Three coaches

You pick from Juno, Aria and Kai, Pragma's three AI coaches, and switch any time. Juno is warm and leans on Emotionally Focused Therapy. Aria is structured and uses CBT-style questions. Kai is encouraging and solution-focused.

Fifteen minutes is short on purpose, because the habit matters more than the length.

02 · How it works

How an AI relationship coach for Gen Z couples works for two partners

Each partner has a private account on their own phone, and the two accounts pair with a code. You share the practice, not the words.

  1. One of you starts. Start the trial on the web. You can begin before your partner is ready.
  2. The other joins with a code. Your partner enters your 8-character invite code from their own phone.
  3. Each of you talks privately. Your partner sees your completion, streak and exercise progress. They never see your transcripts.

Transcripts are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The Journal keeps your sessions for you alone, with a date and a short AI summary. Pragma also works in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Arabic.

An AI coach you share, not one you hide

A coach you both know about differs from AI used in secret. The Institute for Family Studies summary of a 2026 study of young adults covers partnered 18 to 30 year olds. It found 15% regularly use AI romantic companions, and 69% of those want to hide how much.

Pragma is not a companion and does not play a partner. It sits inside a practice you both agreed to join. Your words stay private, and your partner can still see that you showed up.

03 · Between sessions

The Practice and The Blueprint for young couples

The Practice has 13 programs of 7 to 10 days, one short task a day. Each task comes with a tip and a short written reflection.

Updating Your Love Maps runs seven days and is built on the Gottman Method. It suits a newer couple still learning each other's world. The Appreciation Habit takes about five minutes a day for seven days. Speaking From Needs, built on Nonviolent Communication, helps with saying what you need without blame.

The Blueprint shows your progress over time: sessions, minutes, streaks and how often you followed through.

Small tasks, repeated, are how the work adds up.

04 · The science

Built on methods couples therapists use

The coaching is built on six methods couples therapists train in. They are the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, CBT, Nonviolent Communication, attachment theory and positive psychology.

Pragma's methods page credits each framework and shows where it appears in the app. Pragma is not affiliated with or endorsed by the owners of these methods.

Pragma costs $19.99 a month, $44.99 every three months or $119.99 a year, per partner. The yearly plan works out to $10.00 a month, and every plan includes every feature.

08 · Safety first

When to get more help

An app like this is not for abuse, control, fear of your partner, or thoughts of self-harm. It is not for a mental health condition that needs treatment. Pragma's privacy policy says it scans sessions for signs of crisis and points to resources. It is not an emergency service.

In the US, call or text 988 at any hour. The Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233. You can find more helplines on Pragma's crisis resources page for couples.

Honest answers

Frequently asked questions from Gen Z couples

Is an AI relationship coach different from asking ChatGPT?

Yes. A general chatbot hears only the person typing. A coach built for two gives each partner a private session inside one shared practice. Pragma also adds short programs and ends each session with one thing to try.

Can my partner see what I tell the coach?

No. In Pragma, transcripts are encrypted and never shown to your partner. They see your completion, streak and exercise progress only.

Do we both have to use it?

No. One of you can start alone and invite the other later with an 8-character code. The practice goes further when both of you take part.

Is Pragma for teenagers?

No. Pragma is rated 18+ on the App Store. It is built for adult couples.
