About Pragma

We built the practice we wished existed

Pragma is a daily, therapist-informed relationship practice for two — built on a simple conviction: love is built, not found. Most relationships don't fail in a fight; they thin out in the silences. We made something to fill those quiet minutes with a better question.

Our mission & method·4 min read

Why Pragma exists

Good couples counseling works — but it's expensive, hard to schedule for two busy people, and usually weeks away. So the everyday maintenance of a relationship, the part that actually keeps two people close, tends to get no support at all. You're not in crisis. You're tired, a little distracted, and aware that the easy closeness you used to have has been crowded out by logistics.

That's the gap Pragma was built for: fifteen quiet minutes a day, on each partner's own phone, with an AI relationship coach trained on the methods couples therapists actually use. Not a weekly appointment — a daily rhythm. Small reps that compound.

Our mission

Make the daily work of a relationship easier to do — and easier to keep doing — for every couple, in their own language, at a price that isn't a barrier.

What we believe

  • Love is built, not found. Lasting closeness comes from small, repeated actions, not a single breakthrough. We design for the reps, not the fireworks.
  • Repair over perfection. Every relationship cracks. What matters is how you mend — which is why our whole identity is built on kintsugi, the art of repairing with gold.
  • Privacy is not negotiable. What you say is encrypted and never shown to your partner. Shared memory only surfaces the privacy-aware insights you've allowed — never your raw words.
  • Honesty about what we are. Pragma is a coach, not a clinician. We say so plainly, and we point you to a trained human the moment something needs one.

How we work

Pragma's coaching isn't advice off the internet. It's grounded in six well-studied approaches to relationships and behaviour change — the same frameworks therapists train in — translated into plain language you can use tonight:

01Gottman Method 02Emotionally Focused Therapy 03CBT 04Nonviolent Communication 05Attachment theory 06Positive psychology

Every session ends with one concrete, doable thing — a question to ask, a repair to make, a small habit to try before tomorrow. More on the science behind Pragma.

What Pragma is not

Pragma is an AI relationship coach, not a licensed therapist. It doesn't diagnose or treat medical or mental-health conditions, and it isn't a substitute for professional care. It's genuinely good at the everyday work — communication, reconnecting, breaking out of repetitive arguments — and as support between or before professional help. If you're facing abuse, a mental-health crisis, or risk of harm, Pragma surfaces local crisis resources and urges you to reach a professional immediately. Some things need a person, and we'll always say so.

The name

Pragma is the ancient Greek word for enduring, built love — the kind that deepens through choice and effort rather than chance. It's also a quiet nod to engineering: a #pragma is an instruction that tells a compiler how to build something correctly. Love you construct, and an instruction for building it well. More on what "pragma" means.
