Pragma · Long distance
Couples app for long distance couples: build a small stack, then add one for the hard talks.
No single couples app for long distance couples does everything, so most use two to four, one per job. The usual jobs are home-screen photos, voice or video you answer later, watching together and planning visits. Distance also makes some conversations harder. Pragma, an AI relationship coach built for two, is for that last job.

This page is for couples living apart who keep in touch daily but keep having the same argument on calls. It covers the stack, which app fits your hardest problem and what Pragma adds. Comparing coaching apps first? Our 2026 roundup of AI couples apps sets them side by side.
01 · Inside Pragma
The apps long-distance couples use, one per job
A typical long-distance stack pairs one app with each job. We checked each one on its own page on 11 October 2026.
- Home-screen photos. Locket Widget's App Store listing shows live photos from your partner on your Home Screen. It is free, with paid extras.
- Video you answer later. Marco Polo's website describes video messages each person replies to on their own schedule.
- Voice you answer later. Roads Audio's App Store listing offers private voice threads for people far apart. It is free, with a paid Plus tier.
- Watching together. Teleparty's support page says it lets you watch TV together, with each viewer on their own streaming account.
- Planning visits. Cupla's guide to long-distance movie nights describes calendar syncing that finds a shared time across time zones.
- Something to talk about. Paired gives you daily questions to answer together. Paired's FAQ on Premium pricing lists $79.99 per couple per year.
Rave, a watch-party app still on many lists, says on its site that Apple removed it from the App Store. Most couples keep two to four of these and let the rest go.
02 · Inside Pragma
Which long-distance app fits your biggest challenge?
The right pick depends on what distance makes hardest for the two of you.
| If your biggest challenge is… | Start with |
|---|---|
| A big time-zone gap | Marco Polo or Roads Audio, for video or voice you answer later |
| Nothing new to talk about | A daily-question app such as Paired |
| Missing shared time | Teleparty, for a synced movie night |
| Visits feel vague | Cupla, to find a shared time and plan |
| The same argument keeps coming back | Pragma, for coached sessions with one step to try |
| You argue in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Arabic | Pragma, which works in six languages |
Pick for the hardest part first. The rest of the stack can stay light.
03 · What you get
What Pragma does as a couples app for long distance couples
Pragma takes one slot in the stack: the conversations that keep going wrong, not the daily chat. It is an AI relationship coach, and it does not diagnose or treat.
A daily session
Each of you has a 15-minute session by voice or chat on your own phone. You bring the call that ended badly. The coach helps you see the pattern and ends with one thing to try on the next call.
Three coaches
You pick one of Juno, Aria and Kai, Pragma's three AI coaches. Juno is warm and leans on Emotionally Focused Therapy. Aria is structured and uses CBT-style questions. Kai is encouraging and solution-focused.
Long-distance couples tend to bring three situations:
- The fight that restarts after every missed call. Name the pattern instead of replaying the call.
- Repair after a hung-up call. Practice an apology that does not reopen the argument.
- Working on your side alone. Start while your partner is not ready yet.

04 · How it works
How a couples app for long distance couples works for two partners
Pragma is one shared practice with two private accounts. Each of you does your own session on your own phone.
You pair with an 8-character invite code. Transcripts are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and never shown to your partner. Your partner sees your completion, streak and exercise progress across the distance. The Journal keeps your sessions for you alone.

05 · Between sessions
The Practice and The Blueprint
The Practice has 13 programs of 7 to 10 days, with one short task a day. When you live in two cities, doing the same task gives your next call something to compare. The Daily Debrief, seven days built on the Gottman Method, fits a nightly call. Small Promises Kept spends ten days on trust through small commitments.
The Blueprint shows your progress over time: sessions, minutes, streaks and how often you followed through.

06 · The science
Built on methods couples therapists use
The coaching is built on six methods couples therapists train in. They are the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, CBT, Nonviolent Communication, attachment theory and positive psychology.
Pragma's methods page credits each framework and shows where it appears in the app. Pragma is not affiliated with or endorsed by the owners of these methods.
07 · Pricing

Pragma costs $19.99 a month, $44.99 every three months or $119.99 a year, per partner. The yearly plan works out to $10.00 a month, and every plan includes every feature.

When to get more help
Living apart does not change when you need trained people. An app is not for abuse, control, fear of your partner or thoughts of self-harm. Pragma's privacy policy says it scans sessions for signs of crisis and points to resources. It is not an emergency service.
In the US, call or text 988 at any hour. The Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233. You can find more helplines on Pragma's crisis resources page for couples.
Honest answers
Frequently asked questions about couples apps for long distance couples
What is the best app for long distance couples?
There is no single best app, because each does a different job. Pick one for your hardest problem. Try Marco Polo or Roads Audio for time zones, Teleparty for watching, Cupla for planning. Pragma covers recurring arguments.
Should we use a couples app if we already text every day?
Only if it does a different job than texting. Skip any app that only duplicates your messages.
Can I start a coaching app if my partner isn't ready?
Yes. In Pragma, you can start alone and work on your side of a recurring argument. Your partner can join later with an 8-character code, in their own private account.
Are there apps to watch movies together long distance?
Yes. Teleparty lets you watch together, with each of you on your own streaming account. Check that each app is still in your app store, since some watch-party apps have been removed.
