How to take the relationship health check

Answer each statement for how things feel most of the time, not on your best or worst day. There are no right answers.

  1. Find ten quiet minutes and take the check on your own.
  2. Rate each statement from strongly disagree to strongly agree.
  3. Read your result and note your strongest and weakest areas.
  4. Ask your partner to take it separately, then compare results calmly.

Comparing two honest views tells you more than either result alone.

What the seven areas mean

The seven areas draw on the Gottman Method's model of what keeps couples close. The Gottman Institute's article on the Sound Relationship House describes the full model.

AreaWhat it looks like day to day
FriendshipYou know each other's worries, hopes and daily world.
FondnessYou notice and say what you like about each other.
Turning towardYou answer small bids for attention instead of ignoring them.
ConflictYou raise problems gently and listen to each other.
RepairYou make up after fights and let them end.
Shared meaningYou share goals, rituals and a sense of us.
TrustYou feel safe, chosen and backed up.

Your lowest area is simply the best place to start, not a verdict on your relationship.

A ten-minute talk

Each of you shares your strongest area and one thing you want more of. Agree on one small step for this week.

If conflict came out low, take our free conflict style quiz next to see how each of you fights.

When to get more help

A quiz cannot see the whole picture. If most areas feel low for months, a licensed couples therapist can help you both.

If you feel afraid of your partner, or a talk touches on abuse or self-harm, reach out now. In the US, call or text 988, or see our crisis resources for couples.

Getting help early is a sign of care, not failure.

How Pragma helps you work on your weakest area

Pragma is an AI relationship coach for two. Each of you gets a short daily session by voice or chat, with one small step to try that night.

Exercise programs focus on one area at a time, such as repair or turning toward. Read what an AI couples therapy app does to see how it fits your week.

Pragma is a coach, not a therapist. It does not diagnose or treat, and many couples use it alongside therapy.

Frequently asked questions

What is a relationship health check?

It is a short set of statements about how your relationship feels day to day. Your answers show which areas are strong and which need care.

Is this relationship quiz accurate?

It is a reflection tool, not a clinical test. It works best as a way to start an honest talk with your partner.

Should my partner take it too?

Yes. Take it separately, then compare. Differences between your results are often the most useful part of the talk.

Is my data saved?

No. Your answers stay in your browser and are not sent or stored anywhere.

Want this as a nightly habit?

Pragma gives each of you a 15-minute session a day, by voice or chat. It is a coach, not a therapist.
